1. n. an inlet, sea-loch; this word is still used in Dan., and freq. in Dan. local names, e. g. Mön’s nor, Falster nor, Noret near to Danavirki in Sleswig; but it is obsolete in Icel., and not recorded in old writers.
2. m., gen. nós, dat. nói, [an antiquated word, perh. akin to Lat. navis, Gr. νηυς, ναυς], a kind of ship, Edda (Gl.): a smith’s trough, Björn; brand-nór (í brand-nói), a ‘hearth-ship,’ i. e. a house, poët., Ýt.
