and avar- [ afar = μετά, όπίσω; aber, in compounds: v. Grimm ii. 709], only used as a prefix in compounds, very much, very. Now often pronounced æfar, which form occurs in of the 14th and I5th centuries, i. 150, xi. 249, Ísl. ii. 131; also æfr, iracundus.
