a house in which a meeting is held, ii. 49 (where it is an error for hús-þing, 45, ); the word is rare in old writers, because parliaments of old were held in the open air: the word is used of the Jewish synagogue, 48, : also for the Roman praetorium or a judgment-hall, John xviii. 28; so also in usage, 21.
