, fetli, fetlar; an older form fatli ( katli) seems to be left in the phrase, bera hönd í fatla ( fatli), to carry the arm in a sling: [ fessel]:—the strap by which a bag is hung on the shoulder, i. 349: the strap or belt of a shield or sword (skjaldar-fetill, sverds-f., τελαμών), umgörð ok fetlar, i. 414, 22, 33, 123, ii. 422; hence the sword is in poetry called fetil-stingi, a, a ‘belt-pin,’ fetla-byrðr, a burthen carried by straps, i. 143.
