1. u, [from the reise], a journey; this word, which is very rare in usage (ferð and för are the vernacular words), appears at the end of the 15th century, i. 900 ( the second recension); var svá hörð reisan þeirra, viii. 32 (, an error for reiðan, in a vellum of the latter part of the 15th century, but shewing that the transcriber knew the German word); in Norway it occurs in a deed of 1344: in usage say ferða-reisa, vera á ferða-reisu:—í þrjár reisur, thrice, ii. 474. reisu-móðr, journey-weary, 2. t, [ reisen], to travel, ()3. , of cattle so starved or old that they cannot rise, but must be lifted up, reisa af hor.
