One is tempted to think that in the verse of Bragi (Edda begin.) the word ‘vineyjar’ may cover this local name; perh. ‘Vaeneris (like mútaris, vartaris, see Gramm. p. xxvii, col. 1, ll. 21–25) víðri valrauf;’ the wide spoil of the Wener’ = the island of Zealand, for the legend can only have applied to Lake Wener, and not to Lake Malar.
